Thursday, 30 January 2025 | PNS | Jamshedpur

Two Maoists were killed, one of whom was a woman during an intense encounter with Naxalites in the Nachalda forest of Chaibasa, West Singhbhum district. The operation took place on Wednesday morning. The security forces successfully neutralized the threat while ensuring minimal casualties on their side.

As per officials, the encounter took place between security forces including Jharkhand Police and 209 CoBRA battalion, and naxals in a forest area under Sonua police station in Chaibasa.

Amidst the gunfight, CRPF-209 battalion jawan Aman Kongadi sustained injuries. He was promptly evacuated and has been sent to Ranchi for advanced medical treatment. The confrontation occurred within the Sonua police station area, which has been a known hotspot for Naxalite activities.

The deceased Naxalites have been identified as Sanjay Gajhu and Hemanti. Security personnel recovered two INSAS rifles and a significant amount of ammunition from the encounter site. Authorities believe that this decisive action will serve as a major setback to Naxalite operations in the region.

"A gunfight broke out between security forces and Maoists in a forest under Sonua police station area around 6.35 am. Two bodies including a woman were recovered during the search operation," said Kolhan range DIG Manoj Ratan Chothe. He said two INSAS rifles were also recovered from the place of occurrence. A search operation was still underway in the area, the DIG added.

Following the incident, a rigorous search operation has been launched in the surrounding areas, as police suspect that more Naxalites may still be hiding within the dense forest. The operation is being jointly conducted by CRPF forces and the local police, ensuring maximum coverage and effectiveness in flushing out remaining militants.

Law enforcement agencies have reaffirmed their commitment to eradicating Naxalite presence in the region. According to police officials, this campaign against Naxalites will persist with full intensity, aiming to restore peace and security for the local communities. The recent success in Nachalda forest is seen as a significant victory in the ongoing efforts to combat left-wing extremism in Jharkhand.

The government has reiterated its support for security forces engaged in counter-insurgency operations and urged citizens to cooperate with law enforcement agencies. The local administration is also considering additional measures to enhance security and prevent further Naxalite resurgence in the region,” said an official.
