Garhwa police have arrested three members of a gang involved in nearly three dozen theft cases in the Palamu commissionary. Jewellery and cash worth around Rs. 500,000 were recovered from them. One member of the gang is still at large, and police are searching for him.
Garhwa Superintendent of Police Deepak Kumar Pandey said there had been an increase in theft and housebreaking incidents in the Garhwa police station area in recent months. To catch the suspects and recover the stolen goods, a police team was formed under the leadership of the Sub-Divisional Police Officer, Garhwa.
During a raid, police officers spotted three suspicious individuals near Nahar Chowk between midnight and 1 am. They arrested the three men.
Based on information from the suspects, police recovered around ₹5 lakh in cash and jewellery from the homes of three goldsmiths and thieves. The three individuals were identified as Dilkash Roshan (21), Satish Kumar Vishwakarma (26), and Lalbabu Ram (35). Three goldsmiths were also arrested for buying stolen goods. They were identified as Mukesh Kumar Soni, Sushil Soni alias Pinttu Soni, and Krishna Soni.
The arrested individuals admitted to committing thefts in several areas, including Ashok Bihar, Jobaraiya, Kalyanpur, Sahijhana, Piparakhurd, Chetana, Farthia, Garhwa police station, and the Sadar areas of Maziyawan, Meral, and Haltenganj. Stolen gold and silver ornaments, and ₹42,490 were recovered from their homes.
The suspects said they would scout houses during the day and target those that were locked. They would then break into these houses at night and steal valuables. They would sell the stolen gold and silver to goldsmiths, including Mukesh Soni, Krishna Soni, and Sushil Soni. They would then divide the money equally. The SP added that all of them have a criminal history.
