In a major boost for train travellers in Madhya Pradesh, recovering lost mobile phones has become easier with Indian Railways adopting the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR).
The Railway Protection Force (RPF), in collaboration with the Department of Telecommunications, will now use CEIR nationwide to block and track lost mobile phones during rail journeys.
Initially tested in the North East Frontier Railway, CEIR helped recover numerous lost phones and identify culprits, prompting its rollout across the Indian Railways network.
Passengers can report lost devices through the Rail Madad app, by dialling 139, or by directly lodging a complaint on the CEIR portal—without filing an FIR.
Once the complaint is filed, the RPF’s cyber cell blocks the handset. If a new SIM card is used, tracking begins immediately to locate the phone.
Recovered devices can be collected from the nearest RPF post, and passengers can request unblocking via the CEIR portal for full restoration of service.
Between January 2024 and February 2025, the RPF recovered belongings worth Rs 84.03 crore under Operation Amanat, benefiting over 115,000 passengers nationwide.
Meanwhile, railway authorities have announced the launch of 16 pairs of special trains for Madhya Pradesh, aimed at easing travel congestion during the summer holidays and Hanuman Jayanti festivities.
Railway officials said these trains will address the shortage of seats in regular services and cover 32 Madhya Pradesh stations, including Bhopal, Itarsi, Jabalpur and Ujjain.
The trains will ferry holiday travellers to destinations in 10 states, such as Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Tamil Nadu, and ensure wider connectivity for long-distance passengers.
