The railway administration conducted a special checking drive against ticketless travel and other misdemeanours at Sant Hirdaram railway station in the state capital on Sunday.
The inspection team, led by Railway Magistrate Anurag Khare, comprised railway officials, ticket-checking staff, and Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel.
The intensive checking drive resulted in penalties of Rs 13,990 against 32 ticketless travellers and Rs 65,610 against stall owners and unauthorised vendors for various misdemeanours.
Railway officials said the inspection drive is part of the process to ensure safe and comfortable travel for all passengers and curb the menace of ticketless travel, chain-pulling, and the entry of unauthorised persons in railway premises.
Railway sources maintain that such drives deter offenders and maintain discipline at railway stations. Officials say that ticketless travel not only causes revenue loss but also leads to overcrowding in compartments, affecting genuine passengers.
They warn of strict action against those involved in chain-pulling without a valid reason, a practice that disrupts train schedules.
