University Law College, Vinoba Bhave University, successfully organized a seminar on "Understanding Third Gender Rights", bringing together legal experts, academicians, activists, and policymakers to discuss the challenges and legal frameworks surrounding transgender rights in India. The program was graced by Chief Guest Dr. Pawan Kumar Poddar, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, Vinoba Bhave University, who emphasized the importance of legal education in fostering gender inclusivity and social justice. He highlighted the need for a more progressive approach to gender identity within academic and legal institutions. Distinguished speakers included Dr. Sadik Rajak, Registrar, Vinoba Bhave University, and Dr. Vikas Kumar, Dean of Student Welfare, who shared insights on the evolving legal landscape and the role of educational institutions in promoting gender sensitivity. Dr. Mithilesh Kumar Singh, Proctor, and Financial Advisor Shri Akhilesh Kumar also addressed the gathering, stressing the significance of policy implementation and institutional support for the transgender community. The seminar featured notable speakers from the legal and activist communities, including Shri Gaurav Khurana, Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, who discussed legal aid provisions for transgender individuals, and transgender activists Amarjeet (Utthan CBO) and Nilofer (Humsafar Trust), who shared personal experiences and the socio-legal challenges faced by the community. Advocate Anshu Goyal (Humsafar Trust) provided legal insights on the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act, 2019, and its practical implications. The event began with a welcome address by Dr. Rashmi Pradhan, Principal In-Charge, University Law College, who set the stage for an engaging discussion on transgender rights and legal recognition. The program was moderated by Bharat Kumar Mishra, ensuring a structured and interactive dialogue.
