Tensions have risen in Hur Madhya village, near the Garhwa police station, after banned meat was found at a canal construction site.
The incident happened at a camp run by Shivalaya Construction Company. A security guard challenged the presence of the meat, which caused a fight. Labourers from West Bengal, living at the camp, attacked the guard. Locals stepped in, making the situation worse.
Shivalaya Construction Company is building a four-lane road in the Garhwa area. Their camp in Hur Madhya village houses nine labourers and a security guard.
On Saturday morning, a man arrived at the camp with a plastic bag on his motorbike. Govind Choudhary, the security guard, asked what was in the bag. At first, he was told it was chicken. But when he checked, Choudhary found what looked like beef. When he complained, the labourers allegedly attacked him.
The police quickly arrived, led by SDPO Neeraj Kumar. They are investigating the incident. Nine labourers at the camp were arrested and taken to the police station. They are all said to be from Dinajpur, West Bengal.
SDPO Neeraj Kumar confirmed the banned meat was seized. It has been sent to a vet for examination. A full investigation is underway, and more action is expected. The arrested men are Sairul Haq, Farooq Islam, Mahefizul Haq, Alam Sheikh, Nasiruddin Mohamad, Noor Islam, Mo Firoz Sheikh, Shahabuddin Samjed Sheikh, and Wasir Ali. They are all from Dinajpur, West Bengal, and were living at the camp.
