BJP MLA from Malviya Nagar, Satish Upadhyay on Wednesday accused the AAP of disrespecting freedom fighters. This comes after a day the AAP accused the BJP of removing portraits of BR Ambedkar and Shaheed Bhagat Singh from the Chief Minister's office.
Upadhyay visited Shaheed Bhagat Singh Park in Malviya Nagar and criticised the Aam Aadmi Party over neglecting a damaged statue of the freedom fighter installed at the park. The BJP has denied the allegations and shared pictures on social media to refute the charges.
Sharing pictures of the sorry state of statue of Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Upadhyay said the statue has holes at many places and the left palm is also missing.
"AAP MLA Somnath Bharti was here, but he did not care about the statue of Bhagat Singh," the BJP leader said.
He said the AAP does not care about the legacy of Bhagat Singh, but uses it for vote bank politics. "If they (AAP) were so concerned, the condition of the park would have been different," Upadhyay said.
He stated that the statue of Shaheed Bhagat Singh in this park has been broken for the past three years. Upadhyay alleged that for the last 10 years, the AAP's Somnath Bharti was the MLA from this area, but he showed no concern for the damaged statue of Bhagat Singh.
Upadhyay claimed that the AAP only engages in showmanship and that if they truly cared about Shaheed Bhagat Singh, the condition of this park would have been very different.
He directed the concerned authorities to repair the statue at the earliest.
Upadhyay also emphasised that Shaheed Bhagat Singh is highly revered and respected, and while others may engage in politics, the BJP believes in action and work.
