The tragic death of a protester during the agitation at Bokaro Steel Plant has raised serious concerns. However, the ongoing blockade of the plant’s gates has also created a critical industrial and public safety risk.
Bokaro Steel Plant is a thermo-sensitive facility with a complex network of highly sensitive gas pipelines that require continuous monitoring and strict safety protocols. These pipelines carry toxic gases, which, if leaked or spread, could endanger a large population. With the blockade continuing for over 18 hours, nearly 5,000 employees remain trapped inside without access to food and water, significantly impacting plant operations.
As a result, all major production units, including Blast Furnaces, Coke Ovens, Sinter Plant, SMS, and Hot Strip Mill, have been shut down since last night. The prolonged disruption is making it increasingly difficult to maintain critical safety protocols for the gas pipeline network, raising concerns about potential industrial hazards.
Despite these challenges, plant personnel have been making every possible effort to uphold safety standards. However, if the situation persists, ensuring these protocols will become increasingly difficult, posing a serious threat to both the plant and the surrounding city.
In light of this critical situation, Bokaro Steel Plant management has appealed to the protesters to allow the movement of essential personnel to maintain plant safety and prevent any potential industrial disaster.
