Prez takes holy dip, prays for nation’s prosperity and peace

Tuesday, 11 February 2025 | PNS | Mahakumbh Nagar

After taking a holy dip in Triveni Sangam on Monday, President Droupadi Murmu shared her reflections on social media, praying for the prosperity, happiness and peace of the nation.

Expressing her sentiments on X, she wrote, “I had the privilege of bathing at the sacred confluence of Maa Ganga, Yamuna and the invisible Saraswati in the divine aura of Prayagraj Maha Kumbh. This grand congregation of faith and devotion profoundly symbolises India’s rich cultural heritage. Maha Kumbh spreads the message of unity and spirituality to humanity. I pray to Maa Ganga to keep her blessings upon all, bringing happiness and peace into everyone’s lives."

President Murmu also shared pictures of her Sangam bath, where she is seen offering prayers and performing rituals with deep devotion. Her family accompanied her in this sacred moment. After the holy dip, she performed the traditional ‘dugdhabhishek’ at Sangam, followed by an aarti.

On this occasion, Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath presented President Murmu and her family with gifts showcasing UP’s pride products from the One District, One Product (ODOP) initiative.

The sacred confluence of Ganga, Yamuna and Saraswati is drawing countless devotees daily, transforming Maha Kumbh into an ocean of faith.

Earlier, the first tribal President of India took the sacred dip at the confluence of Ganga, Yamuna and Saraswati in Sangam, symbolising unity and social harmony.  With deep faith and devotion, President Murmu immersed herself in the holy Sangam waters at Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj amid the chanting of Vedic mantras.

Before her ritual bath, she offered flowers and a coconut at the Sangam and paid obeisance to Lord Surya by performing ‘arghya’. President Murmu took multiple dips while praying to the sacred rivers. Subsequently, she performed puja at Sangam, accompanied by aarti and Vedic recitations.

Before immersing herself in the sacred waters of the Triveni Sangam, President Murmu, accompanied by her family, performed traditional puja archana. With deep faith, she first touched the holy water, sought blessings, and then offered a flower garland and coconut, praying for the nation’s peace and prosperity. She then worshipped Lord Surya, offering ‘arghya’ in reverence, before taking multiple dips in the confluence with devotion.

Following the ritual bath, she performed puja with full traditional rites. She also performed ‘dughdhabhishek’ of the Sangam Triveni amid chanting of Vedic hymns and shlokas. She then offered akshat, naivedya, flowers, fruits, and a red chunri as part of her prayers. Concluding the ceremony, she performed aarti of the three sacred rivers at the confluence site. The tirtha purohit present there welcomed her by tying a ‘kalawa’ on her wrist.

After the holy dip, President Murmu proceeded to Akshayvat, a revered site in Sanatan culture, symbolising immortality. The Puranas also highlight its spiritual significance. She then visited Saraswati Koop, a sacred well associated with Maa Saraswati and then went to the Bade Hanuman temple where she prayed for the well-being and prosperity of the nation. The temple’s mahant and peethadheeshwar of Baghambari Peeth, Balbir Giri, conducted the ritualistic worship and presented her with a replica of the temple as a token of reverence.

President Murmu also visited the Digital Mahakumbh Experience Centre, which uses advanced technology to provide detailed insights into the Maha Kumbh fair. The centre aims to enhance the experience of devotees from India and abroad, allowing them to connect more closely with the spiritual grandeur of Maha Kumbh. As she toured the centre, Chief Minister Yogi briefed her on its features and significance.

Earlier, Governor Anandiben Patel and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath warmly welcomed President Murmu upon her arrival in Prayagraj. She then proceeded to Arail ghat, where she boarded a cruise to reach the Triveni Sangam.

During her tour, President Murmu also enjoyed boating while standing on the deck and fed the birds. Governor Patel and Chief Minister Yogi took the opportunity to brief her about the organisation of the Maha Kumbh and the various arrangements in place for the event.
