Police detains six people in NTPC DGM murder case

Monday, 10 March 2025 | PNS | Ranchi

After the murder of NTPC DGM Jan Kumar Gaurav in Hazaribagh, there has been a stir in the police administration. SP Arvind Kumar Singh has formed Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate this murder. Meanwhile, the police have detained 6 people from different locations and interrogation is going on.

On Saturday, an FIR was lodged at Katkamdag police station and the police started raids to arrest the criminals. Investigation so far has revealed that the criminals had fled towards Pundri forest on a bike after shooting. The police have conducted raids in Fataha Pundri and surrounding forests.

The SIT is headed by Barkagaon SDPO Pawan Kumar. It includes many officers of the technical branch including Katkamdag, Keredari and Barkagaon police station in-charge. At present, the police have not revealed the names of the suspects.

Considering the seriousness of the matter, Bokaro Range IG S Michael Raj reached Hazaribagh and held a high-level meeting with SP Arvind Kumar Singh and other senior officials. This murder has raised serious questions on the law and order situation in Hazaribagh. The police headquarters has also become alert about this matter. The IG took complete information about this murder in the meeting and also discussed the security arrangements of NTPC workers and officials.

Michael Raj said that the police is investigating this murder from every angle. "Who are the criminals, what was their intention, and whether any criminal gang or Naxalite organization has a role in it - investigation is going on in all these aspects. However, the police have not got any concrete clue so far," he said.

When asked why there is no police post from Fateh to Hazaribagh, the IG said that this aspect is also being reviewed and soon this murder case will be revealed.

This is the fourth incident of attack on senior officials associated with NTPC and its outsourced companies. However, this is the first time that such a high ranking official of NTPC has been attacked. Prior to this, 2 senior officials of outsourced companies and an engineer have been killed. According to NTPC officials, Jan Kumar Gaurav did not receive any kind of threat and he did not have any dispute with anyone. This has raised suspicion that someone else may have been targeted, but Jan Kumar Gaurav was killed.

After this murder, there is panic in the entire state. Bokaro Range IG S Michael Raj reached Hazaribagh and investigated several suspicious locations including the incident spot. He said that the police is also considering the issue of providing security to NTPC employees and officials. The police is taking this matter seriously and is engaged in investigation.
