Child health care gets a booster in the MMCH Daltonganj. It is now equipped with Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) and the SNCU. Both the wards are in the hands of the experienced doctors and nurses.
A 30 bed children ward has been set up on the third floor of the MMCH Daltonganj. The children ward has come at such a time when there is an HMPV scare. Children are more vulnerable to this virus, read WHO note of caution and warning.
The children ward was inaugurated by city commissioner Md Jawed Hussain in presence of the medical superintendent Dr Dharmendra Kumar, head of the paediatric department Vinita Nancy Khalkho, child specialist Dr Gaurav Vishal and others on January 17 Friday.
The children ward has 1O beds for the paediatric intensive care unit called PICU.
It's for children one year and above till 17 years afflicted with critical life threatening illnesses said the head of the paediatric department Vinita Nancy Khalkho.
This 10 bed PICU is in addition to 20 bed each of the two SNCU wards here in the MMCH Daltonganj.
Making a difference between PICU and SNCU wards, medical superintendent Dr Dharmendra Kumar said " SNCU is for the newborns. PICU is for children upto the 17 years of age."
The remaining 20 beds in the children ward will be dedicated to treatment for general afflictions of the children reiterated the medical superintendent.
City commissioner Jawed (known by the first name) urged the doctors and nurses here to take utmost care of the kids. He wanted a proper sanitation facility here.
The MMCH officials assured that mothers' having their children here in PICU will have access to meals offered free by the hospital to its indoor patients.
There are longer beds and shorter beds too. Mother's stay is a must. Walls of the ward are child friendly. There are colourful paintings for the children.
