The areas of Palam Assembly, including Palam Extension, Madhu Vihar, Rajapuri, Mahavir Enclave, and surrounding localities, have been grappling with the persistent issues of sewer overflow and contaminated drinking water supply for a long time.
Despite numerous efforts, Delhi Jal Board has not taken any concrete steps to address these issues, forcing local residents to live in extremely distressing and unhygienic conditions. In light of this situation, a Mahapanchayat was organised under the joint aegis of the Federation of South and West District Welfare Forum and RWAs, with the participation of all NGOs, RWAs, prominent social activists, advocates, doctors, and concerned citizens from the region. According to a press statement, a resolution was unanimously passed during the Mahapanchayat to stage a protest if Delhi Jal Board fails to provide a solution. Additionally, the proposal to meet with the local MLA received widespread support and was approved with a show of hands.
Mahesh Mishra, Secretary of the Federation, began his address by paying homage to the martyrs on Martyrs’ Day and emphasized that their thoughts and ideals should be embraced in our lives.
He highlighted that the cooperation of every individual is essential for the development of the region and the nation. He warned that if these problems are not resolved soon, all the stakeholders will organize a protest and continue their agitation until a permanent solution is achieved.
Jagdish Nailwal, General Secretary of Madhu Vihar RWA, mentioned that the situation in all seven blocks of Madhu Vihar is deteriorating due to sewer overflow and contaminated water supply, with Blocks B, B1, C, and C1 being the most affected.
Advocate Rakesh Kumar informed that written complaints have already been sent to the concerned authorities regarding these issues.
