The North Central Railway (NCR), Prayagraj Division, has cancelled several trains passing through the Bhopal Division between February 22-28 due to operational, and passenger safety reasons.
A total of 24 trains from cities like Mumbai, Pune, Ahmedabad, Surat, Howrah, Gorakhpur, Varanasi, Indore, and Bhagalpur have been cancelled. NCR has refused to accommodate these trains, leading to rerouting of 12 trains affecting Bhopal Division, with alternative routes planned to minimise passenger inconvenience.
The cancellations and rerouting has been necessitated due to the ongoing Maha Kumbh festivities at the Triveni confluence of Ganga-Yamuna-Saraswati confluence in Prayagraj.
Notably, the Bhopal Rail Division has helped over 5,54,800 devotees travel from major stations such as Bhopal, Rani Kamlapati, Itarsi, and Sant Hirdaram Nagar. Eleven Maha Kumbh special trains have completed 92 trips, transporting 2,67,800 devotees, while 40 Kumbh special trains through Itarsi carried 2,87,000 passengers.
