Nine Bangladeshi nationals deported since New Year from central district

Speeding up its crackdown on illegal immigrants in the national Capital even as a slugfest has been ensuing between AAP and BJP over the issue, the Delhi Police on Monday claimed that it has deported nine Bangladeshi nationals since the New Year who were staying illegally in the central district of the national Capital.

Following the orders of Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena to launch a two-month special drive to identify and take strict action against illegal Bangladeshi immigrants residing in the city, the police have deported a total of 28 Bangladeshi nationals in southwest district, seven in south district, 14 in southeast district, nine in west district and 13 in central district.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) M Harsha Vardhan said that they have undertaken a two pronged strategy to intensify its vigilance against illegal foreigners including on-ground verifications and data based analysis of foreigners. “They were caught during verification drives conducted by police,” he said.

The nine immigrants who have have been identified and identified since January 1 included 41 years old Md. Iman Hossain, 43 years old Md Sharmin Parvez, 24 years old Rakib Khan, 29 years old Mafujul Islam, 24 years old Shakil Sarker, 38 years old Md Monju Sarker, 36 years old Shahin Danish, 26 years old Taizul Islam and 19 years old Moin Mia.

“Among the nine Bangladeshi nationals deported in January are those caught during verification drives in Jama Masjid and Nabi Karim areas.

They include Mohammad Iman Hossain, who entered India illegally after paying an agent, and Mohammad Sharmin Parvez, whose visa expired in October 2024. Others overstayed their visas and were attempting to acquire Indian identity documents," the DCP said.

He added that the rest of the accused have been detained from the area of Nabi Karim police station where they were staying in a hotel.

“On checking their documents, it was found that they are overstaying in India and were looking to acquire Indian identity documents,” he stated.

Meanwhile, the police deported five foreign nationals in the last year including one Iranian and four Bangladeshis in the central district police.

The Bangladeshi nationals included 34 years old Md. Iqbal Hussain, 24 years old Md. Shohag Hosan, Raihan Islam Polin and Nasir Uddin while Keihan Honardoust belonged to Iran
