Madhya Kshetra Vidyut Vitran Company MKVVCL on Friday warned consumers to refrain from unauthorised tampering with electricity meters. The company has emphasised that individuals found guilty of such actions will face legal consequences under Section 136 of the Electricity Act 2003.
Consumers experiencing issues related to meter readings, billing discrepancies, or power disruptions are urged to report their concerns through official channels rather than attempting unauthorised interventions.
Complaints can be registered via the call centre at 1912, the company’s online portal (portal.mpcz.in), the UPAY app, or by visiting the nearest electricity distribution centre or zone office.
To safeguard consumer interests and maintain the integrity of the power distribution system, a robust mechanism has been established for addressing complaints efficiently.
The company has warned that any consumer who, under the influence of miscreants, engages in damaging, removing, or relocating an electricity meter or tampering with service lines will be subjected to strict legal action.
Under Section 136 of the Electricity Act 2003, any unauthorised removal, relocation, or damage to electrical equipment, meters, or lines constitutes an offence. Offenders can face severe penalties, including imprisonment for up to three years, a fine of Rs 10,000, or both. The electricity distribution company reiterated its commitment to ensuring reliable and lawful electricity services and urged consumers to adhere to regulations. Consumers are advised to use the designated complaint resolution channels and avoid illegal activities that could result in severe consequences.
