A 26-year-old man in Rewa district committed suicide by while streaming live on Instagram, as his wife watched in silence for 44 minutes without seeking help. The incident led to the arrest of his wife, Priya Sharma, and her mother. Shiv Prakash Tripathi had reportedly been struggling with marital issues and had tried multiple times to reconcile with his wife before taking the drastic step.

Tripathi married Priya two years ago. Initially, their relationship remained stable, but after a few months, he discovered that she was secretly communicating with someone else. He did not share this with others and tried to protect the marriage.

Tripathi later had an accident that left him reliant on crutches. During this time, Priya went to her parents' home with their newborn child. He visited multiple times to bring her back, but she refused and allegedly assaulted him.

On the day of the incident, Tripathi went to convince his wife again but was reportedly humiliated and assaulted. He returned home and locked himself in a room. Soon after, he started a live video on Instagram and hung himself. Priya watched the live stream for 44 minutes but did not alert anyone.

When family members learnt of the incident, they saw the video and informed the police. Sub-Divisional Police Officer Umesh Prajapati said the investigation revealed evidence of Priya’s extramarital relationship. Domestic disputes are believed to be a factor in the suicide, he added.

Priya and her mother have been placed in judicial custody.

Further investigation into the incident is underway. Tripathi’s phone and social media accounts have been seized to gather further evidence.
