Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor and former Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal has raised serious allegations of electoral malpractice in the New Delhi Assembly constituency, accusing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of orchestrating a "big scam" to manipulate voters and influence the upcoming elections. A high-level delegation of the AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal and comprising Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, Delhi Chief Ministr Atishi, and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh, met with the Election Commission on Thursday demanded that his New Delhi assembly constituency rival, BJP's Parvesh Verma, be barred from contesting the Delhi election.
Accusing the former MP of "openly distributing money", the ex chief minister asked the poll panel to "raid his house". "The BJP candidate in the New Delhi Assembly constituency, Parvesh Verma, is organising job camps, openly distributing money... These things come under corrupt practices under the rules and regulations of the Election Commission... Parvesh Verma should be barred from contesting elections and his house should be raided to find out how much money he has at his house," Arvind Kejriwal said after meeting the Election Commission.
Kejriwal claimed that thousands of fake applications for vote cancellations and additions had been filed in the constituency in recent weeks. "In the New Delhi Assembly constituency, from 15 December to 7 January, in 22 days, 5,500 applications have come for cancellation of votes. These applications are fake," Kejriwal alleged. He said that when officials investigated the matter and contacted the individuals whose votes were reportedly being cancelled, they found that these applications had been filed without their knowledge. "A big scam is going on," he added.
“On Suspicious Additions to the Voter List, he stated that between December 15 and now, there have been 13,000 new voter registrations in this small constituency with just one lakh voters. “Where did these 13,000 people come from in just 15 days?
This is a clear indication that fake voters are being registered, likely brought in from neighboring states like Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.
We highlighted that this large-scale addition and deletion of votes—amounting to 18.5% of the total voter list—can completely distort the election process” he said.
The AAP delegation demanded immediate action against the District Election Officer (DEO) and Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) for their involvement in facilitating these violations, urging the Election Commission to ensure a free and fair election process.
