Jharkhand Ophthalmological Society gets best eye society award for 3rd time

Jharkhand State Ophthalmological Society (JHOS) was honoured with the Best Ophthalmological Society Award among all the members of the All India Ophthalmology Society for promoting scientific and educational activities among ophthalmologists and postgraduate students as well as successfully conducting eye health awareness campaigns among the masses in the year 2024-2025.

The JHOS has also received the honour of the winner of the Best Ophthalmic Society for the third consecutive time in the category of group of 100-500 members in the year 2024-2025.

The honour of the country's best ophthalmological society was received on the stage by Chairperson Scientific Committee cum Management Committee member Dr. Bharti Kashyap, Management Committee member Dr. B P Kashyap, Secretary Dr. Sujoy Samanta, Vice President Dr. Nilendu Mishra, former Secretary Dr. S. K. Mitra and Treasurer Vibhuti Bhushan on behalf of the committee.

This honour was given by Congress President Dr. Lalit Verma of the 40th Asia-Pacific Ophthalmology Academy Congress session along with the 83rd Annual Conference of the All India Ophthalmology Society. Due to this honor received by Jharkhand on the stage of the international function, eye doctors from the country and abroad also appreciated the work done in this direction in Jharkhand.

Along with this, the society also received the award of the best society for the third time in the category of 500 membership groups.

Dr. Bharti Kashyap, Managing Committee Member cum Chairman Scientific Committee, Jharkhand State Eye Society said that this honour was given to Jharkhand State Ophthalmological Society during the inaugural ceremony of the 40th Asia-Pacific Ophthalmology Academy Congress along with the 83rd All India Ophthalmic Society Annual Conference to be held at Yashobhoomi Convention Center, New Delhi on Thursday, April 3, 2025.

Notably, JHOS was nominated for two major awards this year. The first national honour, which is the best ophthalmological society of the country, has been received for securing the top position among the winning states of different groups on the basis of membership number (less than 100 membership, 100 to 500 membership, 500 to 1000 membership, 1000 to 1500 membership and more than 1500 membership).

Secondly, Jharkhand State Ophthalmological Society was awarded the Best State Society in the category of 100 to 500 members for promoting scientific and educational activities as well as eye health awareness campaigns among the masses for the third consecutive year. This is the third time that Jharkhand State Eye Society has received the award of the best eye society of the country with 100 to 500 members.

Dr. Bharti Kashyap, recipient of Nari Shakti Puraskar by the President of India, informed that under the banner of Jharkhand State Eye Society, 142 campaigns were conducted by the Society to make people aware about eye donation, cataract, glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy in remote areas of Santhal Pargana, Palamu, North Chotanagpur, South Chotanagpur and Kolhan divisions of Jharkhand. Mega Vision for Jharkhand campaigns were organized in Naxal-affected areas of Goilkera and Tonto in West Singhbhum as well as the most backward districts of Pakur and Sahibganj in Santhal Pargana, Jharkhand.

She further said that to make the ophthalmologists and postgraduate students in Jharkhand aware about the new techniques of eye treatment, 94 different scientific seminars were organized by the Society in several cities of the state. Surgical skill transfer courses were organized through 54 wet labs for postgraduate students of Kashyap Memorial Eye Hospital Ranchi, Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) Ranchi, Bokaro General Hospital and Central Coalfields Limited (CCL) Ranchi, MGM Medical College Jamshedpur.

Expressing happiness after receiving the highest honour for the best ophthalmic society of the country, Dr. Bharti Kashyap said that it is a matter of pride not only for Jharkhand Ophthalmological Society but also for our state and this award has brought prestige to Jharkhand across the country.
