Industry Secretary Arwa Rajkamal today said that for the first time in the history of Jharkhand, such a State Handloom Expo is being organized. He said that the expo is a platform which is not only encouraging the weavers working in the handloom sector of Jharkhand but is also giving a platform to other states of the whole country. He was speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the State Handloom Expo at Morhabadi Ground today.
Rajkamal said that Jharkhand is a developing state; the people here are very art lovers. The art in the culture here is reflected in the art works here. We will take a resolution to organize Handloom Expo here every year and the weavers' committee will be given many subsidies by the government, from building sheds to installing their machines. Every year we provide funds to hundreds of such supporting committees. This year too, I hope that we will select as many beneficiaries as possible as per the budget and provide them the benefits of this scheme.
MD of Jharcraft, Kirti Shri said that for the first time, State Handloom Expo is being organized by Jharcraft in which there are more than 80 stalls. Our weaver communities from different corners of the country have set up their stalls. This expo is a platform to establish coordination between buyer and seller and to give weaver communities an identity at the world and state level. This is a platform where they can buy and sell all their products with quality. We consider it a good fortune that we have got the opportunity to organize this handloom expo. He said that in this expo which will run for about 15 days, a live demonstration of the method of making Kukkum thread and weaving of cloth will be done. Also, for the next 15 days, cultural programs will be organized by regional artists of the state and other provinces. Various welfare schemes are being run by the Jharkhand government. People have been connected with handicrafts. This year we are also opening showrooms of handicrafts in Delhi, Kolkata, Ayodhya and Mumbai.
State Handloom Expo will run from 25 February to 10 March 2025. A large number of weavers from Bengal, Bihar, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh will exhibit their products in the expo. Apart from this, 80 stalls of Weaver Center of Jharkhand have also been set up.
During the inauguration of the program, Industry Secretary Arwa Rajkamal distributed loom distribution, workshed approval letters, and training letters among the weavers.
Mainly present in the State Handloom Expo inauguration program were Director Industries Sushant Gaurav, MD ZIDCO Akanksha Ranjan, CEO Chief Minister Small and Cottage Industries Development Board Himanshu Mohan, MD Prerna Dixit, CEO Khadi Board Suman Pathak, GM Jharcraft Pankaj Kumar Sao and weavers from the state and other states.
