The district administration on Monday confiscated a large number of LPG cylinders as part of its campaign to curb the illegal use of domestic cooking fuel.

On Sunday, raids at two gas refilling points in the Saidia School and Anna Nagar areas led to the confiscation of nine filled and 22 empty domestic gas cylinders (14.2 kg), two filled and nine empty commercial cylinders (19 kg), four electronic weighing scales, five gas transfer motor pumps, and around 70 gas cylinder caps.

In continuing action on Monday, raids in the Chhatrapati Nagar area resulted in the seizure of 32 filled and nine empty domestic gas cylinders (14.2 kg), one filled and two empty commercial cylinders (19 kg), along with a motor pump, six brass nozzles, and approximately 50 gas cylinder caps.

Authorities also intercepted a vehicle (Registration No. MP05G6771) in the same area, recovering 76 filled domestic gas cylinders. The total value of the seized goods is estimated at Rs 5,52,000.

Legal action is being taken against those involved under the Liquefied Petroleum Gas (Regulation of Supply and Distribution) Order, 2000, and the Essential Commodities Act, 1955.
