Bhopal Crime Branch successfully apprehended a drug peddler and his accomplice, recovering 6.55 kg of illegal cannabis along with two mobile phones. The primary accused, Mohammad Anas alias Dana (32), had previously been expelled from the district under externment orders but continued to engage in criminal activities.
Acting on a tip-off, the Crime Branch team learned that a man was waiting with a grey trolley bag containing cannabis near an open ground in front of Yes Bank, MP Nagar. Upon reaching the scene, the police detained Mohammad Anas and his accomplice, Kaamna Yadav alias Khushi (22), who were sitting under a tree with the trolley bag.
A search of the bag revealed six packets wrapped in brown tape, later confirmed to be cannabis weighing 6.55 kg. The accused were taken into custody, and a case was registered against them under Section 8/20 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
According to officials, Mohammad Anas is a habitual offender with a criminal record dating back to 2014. He had been previously externed from Bhopal and surrounding districts—including Vidisha, Sehore, Rajgarh, Raisen, and Narmadapuram—for one year under preventive measures. Despite his externment, Anas returned to Bhopal and was caught committing a cognizable offense on March 22, leading to additional charges under Section 14 of the MP State Security Act, 1990.
The police revealed that Anas was involved in smuggling large quantities of cannabis from Orissa and selling it in Bhopal for substantial profits. Further investigation is underway to trace his supply chain and other accomplices involved in the illegal drug trade.
In a separate operation, the Crime Branch also apprehended a suspect involved in illegal arms smuggling. The accused, identified as Imran Ahmad, was caught near the Maruti Suzuki My Car workshop in front of the Slaughter House.
During a search, the police recovered a country-made pistol and a live round from Imran’s possession. According to officials, Imran was planning to use the illegal weapon to commit a crime. He was arrested and booked under Section 25(1-A) of the Arms Act, and further investigation is ongoing to uncover any broader network involved in the illicit arms trade.
Both arrests highlight the Crime Branch’s intensified efforts to curb drug trafficking and illegal weapon possession in Bhopal. The police continue to remain vigilant and are committed to cracking down on criminal networks operating in the region.
