Congress stages dramatic protest against BJP government

Friday, 21 March 2025 | Staff Reporter | Bhopal

The Madhya Pradesh Congress staged a unique protest on Thursday, accusing the BJP government of being indifferent to rising corruption and scams in the state. In a symbolic act, Congress MLA Dinesh Jain dressed up as Kumbhakaran, a character from the epic Ramayana known for his prolonged slumber, to depict the government's alleged inaction.

The protest, led by Leader of Opposition Umang Singhar, took place in front of Mahatma Gandhi’s statue on the legislature complex premises. During the demonstration, Congress MLAs played the flute in an attempt to “wake up” the slumbering BJP government, as Jain, in his Kumbhakaran attire, lay down in the middle of the protest.

Addressing the media, Singhar criticized the government for turning a blind eye to corruption and failing to address public grievances. "The BJP government is sleeping like Kumbhakaran while the state is witnessing one scam after another. Our demonstration is a wake-up call to highlight their inaction. There have been scams in the nursing sector, transport department, and the patwari recruitment process. Despite these scandals, the government refuses to act. Youths are struggling to find jobs, and farmers are not receiving essential fertilizers, yet no decisions are being made," he said.

In response to the protest, State Sports, Youth Welfare, and Cooperatives Minister Vishvas Sarang dismissed the Congress’s actions as a mere publicity stunt. He claimed that the government was open to discussing all issues but accused the Congress of using the Budget Session for photo opportunities.
