BJP State President and Leader of Opposition Babulal Marandi today took a big dig at the Congress Party. Marandi said that the history of the Congress Party is anti-backward. Even today the Congress Party is carrying forward this tradition. The same Congress Party never gave constitutional recognition to the Backward Classes Commission.
He said that the Congress government of Karnataka has become so blind in the politics of appeasement that it has provided 4% reservation to the Muslim community in government contracts by breaking into the reservation of the OBC community.
He said that this decision under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi, who roams the whole country with the 'Red Book' of the Constitution and sheds crocodile tears for the OBC community, is not only the culmination of minority appeasement, but is also an open attack on the constitutional rights of the OBC, SC and ST communities.
He said that the Congress government has cut 4% reservation from the OBC quota and given it to Muslim contractors under 'Category-II B'. This decision is against the spirit of social justice. He asked the Congress leadership if this is the so-called “social justice” of the Congress – in which the politics of appeasement is done by snatching the rights of the majority of the deprived classes?
The Rajya Sabha witnessed a heated exchange on Monday as the BJP accused the Congress government in Karnataka of providing Muslim reservation, and also claimed that the Congress leaders were keen to amend the Constitution for this.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju raised the allegations, which Mallikarjun Kharge, the Congress President and Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, strongly denied.
The Karnataka Assembly over Opposition protests demanding a judicial probe into allegations of honey-trap, a Bill was passed Friday to provide 4% reservation for Muslims in public contracts.
Leader of Opposition R Ashoka termed the Karnataka Transparency in Public Procurements (Amendment) Bill, which was piloted by Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister H K Patil, “unconstitutional”.
