Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM), Sanjay Kumar held a "Coffee with SDM" session on Wednesday, extending an invitation to individuals from the sub-divisional area involved in traditional music enterprises, such as dhol, nagara, maander, desi bands, and bhangra, for a discussion.
During the hour-long weekly programme, Kumar addressed the personal and professional challenges faced by the musicians, while also taking note of their expectations of the administration. A significant number of attendees expressed their appreciation for the ban on DJs, thanking the administration for its effective implementation in Garhwa.
Several participants also offered valuable information and constructive suggestions pertaining to law and order in the region.
Valmiki Kumar from Sadar block, a Punjabi bhangra operator, stated that his group employs 20 people. He emphasised that the decline in their work due to the prevalence of DJs has directly impacted the livelihoods of these 20 individuals. He requested that the SDM initiate a collective insurance or social security scheme for them.
Nandlal, the operator of Binaka Band in Garhwa, mentioned the need for capital to expand his traditional band business. He requested administrative assistance in securing small loans. He also asserted that DJs are equally detrimental to children and the elderly and should be boycotted.
Attendees also raised several personal grievances with the SDM.
In conclusion, SDM Sanjay Kumar assured everyone that he would take appropriate action to address their problems and complaints. He also honoured all the attendees with shawls.
Other attendees who shared their thoughts included Dinesh Kumar, Ramesh Kumar, Dheeraj Kumar, Aman Kumar, and Ravi Kumar.
