A 14-year-old student of a private School in Tara Sewania allegedly committed suicide at the school hostel on Tuesday evening at around 7:30 pm. The Parwalia police handed over the body to the family after a post-mortem on Wednesday afternoon. However, the student’s father suspects foul play, stating that his son was courageous and could not have taken such a drastic step.
According to SHO Rohit Singh Nagar, the deceased, Vansh Kushwaha, was a resident of Naveen Nagar, Aishbagh. He had been studying at the School for the past two years and was living in the hostel. On Tuesday evening, Vansh returned to his room after attending a yoga class and allegedly hanged himself using a towel tied to a window grill. The warden informed the police, following which the FSL team inspected the room. A torn page from a notebook was found, containing a note written in English. The translated version reads: "I don't understand what will happen in my life in the future. How can someone cheat like this? However, no one is at fault in this. Everyone is good. Don't know what will happen next." Handwriting experts are analyzing whether the note matches Vansh’s handwriting.
Police checked hostel CCTV footage, which showed that Vansh attended yoga class and later returned to his room to fill a water bottle. Three of his roommates left for dinner, leaving him alone. When they returned, Vansh was found hanging, and the room door was open from the outside. No one else was seen entering the room before the incident.
Vansh’s father, Santosh Kushwaha, who runs a primary school in Aishbagh, has raised suspicions over the incident. He stated that his son was active in academics, sports, and yoga and was preparing to join Army School with aspirations of becoming a scientist. He spoke to his son over the phone at 3:30 pm on Tuesday, during which Vansh did not mention any issues. "Everything seemed normal," he said.
Santosh further questioned the circumstances of his son's death, pointing out that the window grill was too low for hanging, the towel used was thick and difficult to tie into a noose, the family was informed of the incident two hours late, around 9:30 pm, and upon reaching the hospital, the staff did not allow them to see or touch their son. He also alleged that the hostel authorities failed to take immediate medical action, and no school or hostel representatives were present during the post-mortem.
Demanding an impartial investigation, Santosh said, "Something wrong has happened to my son. This incident should be thoroughly probed." The Parwalia police have registered a case and are investigating the matter.
