City boats to serve at Mahakumbh in Prayagraj

Wednesday, 01 January 2025 | PNS | Bhopal

Six firefighting boats built in the state capital will help enhance safety measures at Mahakumbh 2025 by allowing firefighters and rescuers to promptly tackle emergencies during the religious event in Prayagraj.

Built by city-based PS Traders, on a contract issued by the Uttar Pradesh Fire Service, the boats are currently being tested by a joint team of the Uttar Pradesh Fire Service and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF).

A company official said that the boats have been designed to take the water route while responding to fire emergencies.

The boats will be deployed at various ghats to minimise response times while assisting in firefighting and rescue operations.

The boats, which can accommodate a maximum of ten people, will be dispatched to Prayagraj on successful completion of the testing exercise.

Lasting over 40 days, the Mahakumbh begins on January 13. An estimated 400 million people are expected to attend the event held at the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati rivers.

The religious event is held once every 12 years.
