To reduce fatalities, reduce traffic congestion, enhance road safety and address traffic-related challenges, the Chandigarh Traffic Police on Wednesday conducted a comprehensive Road Safety Dialogue Cum Workshop on Wednesday, bringing together experts and key stakeholders from various departments of the administration.
The workshop commenced with a welcome address by SSP/Traffic Sumer Pratap Singh and setting up of the agenda by Surendra Singh Yadav, DGP UT Chandigarh, followed by a field visit to five identified black spots and five major traffic congestion points across the city by different teams. The visit provided a first-hand understanding of the critical issues affecting road safety and traffic flow. During the event, participants presented detailed analyses of the identified areas, highlighting the key reasons behind frequent accidents, congestion, and safety hazards.
The teams emphasized the importance of improving road infrastructure, better traffic management, and enhancing public awareness to tackle these challenges effectively. The dialogue focused on both short-term and long-term solutions, including the installation of advanced traffic control systems, redesigning hazardous road intersections, better street lighting, and educating the public on safe driving practices. Short-term measures such as traffic rerouting during peak hours and increased patrolling were also discussed to alleviate congestion and improve safety in the immediate future.
"The workshop is a step toward ensuring and addressing immediate traffic concerns and laying the groundwork for long-term solutions," a statement said. The event concluded with a commitment from all participants to collaborate and implement the proposed solutions for safer, more efficient roadways in Chandigarh.
