Punjab Rescues 268 Children Under ‘Project Jeevanjot’

Chandigarh: Punjab Government has successfully rescued 268 children under ‘Project Jeevanjot,’ an initiative launched in July 2024 to rehabilitate children engaged in begging. Social Security, Women and Child Development Minister Dr Baljit Kaur on Friday said that 19 children without parental care are now in government-run child care homes, receiving free education, nutrition, and healthcare. The remaining children have been reunited with their families through Child Welfare Committees. The project, implemented through district task forces, aims to integrate rescued children into mainstream society.

Punjab Releases Rs 49.56-cr for Ex-Servicemen Welfare

Chandigarh: Punjab has released Rs 49.56 crore for ex-servicemen welfare schemes, announced Cabinet Minister Mohinder Bhagat on Friday, directing the officials to accelerate the implementation of financial aid, including ex-gratia grants and disability assistance. The government is also supporting 105 Dharmi Faujis and widows of the Saka Neela Tara incident. Scholarships for students at RIMC Dehradun are being disbursed promptly. Bhagat emphasized the government's commitment to ex-servicemen's rehabilitation and ordered district officials to address their concerns effectively.

Punjab Begins Construction of Park, Pathankot-Madhopur Road

Chandigarh: Punjab Cabinet Minister Lal Chand Kataruchak on Friday initiated the construction of a park in Bhoa constituency, costing Rs 54 lakh, and laid the foundation stone for the Rs 2.15 crore Pathankot-Madhopur road. The new park in Sarna will feature a walking track, open gym, yoga space, and digital amenities. The Minister emphasized the Punjab Government’s commitment to infrastructure development, highlighting plans for six stadiums and new libraries in Pathankot. The road project will benefit residents of Khanpur and nearby villages, providing much-needed connectivity after a decade.

Skilled workers being removed from service in Hry, alleges Hooda

Chandigarh: Former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Friday said that before the Haryana Vidhan Sabha elections, BJP had announced to make 1.25 lakh temporary employees permanent. But as soon as it won the elections, it started the process of removing skilled workers contrary to its promise. Every day hundreds of employees are being removed from service, he alleged. Talking to Reporters, Hooda said that BJP adopted every trick to delay projects. “Hisar and Karnal airports got the approval of the central government during the Congress government in 2013-14 itself, but BJP kept its construction pending for 11 years. Till date, this government is playing the inauguration game with Hisar airport. Sometimes the Chief Minister, sometimes the Union Minister and now the Prime Minister is inaugurating the airport,” he said. 

Chd Mayor urges Chief Secretary for Rs 200 crore Aid


Chandigarh: To address Chandigarh’s civic challenges, City Mayor Harpreet Kaur Babla on Friday held a meeting with UT Chief Secretary Rajeev Verma. In the meeting, the Mayor made an appeal for a financial assistance of Rs 200 crore to support the ongoing civic services of the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh (MCC). Babla highlighted the heavy responsibilities borne by the Corporation, including the maintenance of roads, sanitation, street lighting, waste management, and city parks. Despite these demands, MCC was allocated only Rs. 560 crore for FY 2024–25, against its projected requirement of Rs. 1651.75 crore, leading to a major financial shortfall. The Mayor stressed the urgent need for immediate assistance to cover pending salaries, pensions, and sustain essential public services. She also proposed the introduction of quarterly grant releases beginning FY 2025–26 to ensure smoother financial planning and execution.

Walkathon organised to mark World Homoeopathy Day


Chandigarh: To mark the World Homoeopathy Day, the AYUSH Department, UT Chandigarh on Friday launched an awareness campaign to highlight the significance of Homoeopathy in preventive and holistic healthcare.  As part of this initiative, a spirited Walkathon was organized starting from Rock Garden and culminating at Sukhna Lake. 

BJP to celebrate its Foundation Day Week from April 6 to April 12


Chandigarh: BJP will celebrate Foundation Day Week from April 6 to April 12 with various events, including service activities, public outreach campaigns, and ideological discussions. Talking to Reporters, Chandigarh BJP State President Jitendra Pal Malhotra stated that April 6, 1980, marks the foundation of the BJP, and since then, the party has played a crucial role in Indian politics. He further said that party workers will hoist BJP flags at their homes and conduct various service-oriented programs, including cleanliness drives, aid for the underprivileged, blood donation camps, and public outreach efforts to communicate BJP’s policies and achievements to the people.

Hry CS reviews preparations for CDS & NDA examinations


Chandigarh: Haryana Chief Secretary Anurag Rastogi on Friday reviewed the preparations for the upcoming CDS Examination-I, 2025, and NDA and NA Examination-I scheduled to be held on April 13 in Faridabad and Gurugram districts. The Chief Secretary said that 12 examination centres have been set up in Faridabad and 27 in Gurugram. He directed officials to ensure adequate security arrangements at all examination centres, especially at the entrance gate, rear gate and parking. 


Committee to address fire department employees demands: Haryana Minister


Chandigarh: Haryana Urban Local Bodies Minister Vipul Goel on Friday directed the officers to form a committee by April 15 to address the demands of the fire department employees. He said that the committee should thoroughly examine each point and submit recommendations to the government.
