Marking World TB Day, Bhopal Memorial Hospital & Research Centre (BMHRC) on Monday hosted several events to raise awareness about TB elimination.
Director in charge of the hospital, Dr Manisha Srivastava, emphasised the importance of preclinical diagnosis for TB, underlining the WHO’s 2025 theme: “Yes, we can end TB: Commit, Invest, Deliver.” She stressed the need for ongoing follow-up for patients and investment in preventive healthcare measures.
In a presentation on TB sample collection, Dr Shweta Kumari discussed proper procedures for storing and transporting samples. Emphasising hygiene, she advised sealing samples tightly in leak-proof containers to prevent contamination.
Dr Ankita Choukse, Assistant Professor in Pulmonary Medicine, presented innovations in TB diagnosis and treatment. She highlighted advancements such as shorter treatment durations, fewer drugs, and reduced side effects, making TB management more effective.
