The National Agricultural Education Accreditation Board of ICAR has granted accreditation to five new colleges of Birsa Agricultural University (BAU). Based on the report of the Peer Review Team of ICAR, the Board granted accreditation at its 38th meeting held on January 27th at the ICAR headquarters, New Delhi.
The new colleges getting accreditation are Tilka Manjhi Agriculture College, Godda; Rabindra Nath Tagore Agriculture College, Deoghar; Agriculture College, Garhwa; Horticulture College, Khuntpani, Chaibasa and College of Agricultural Engineering, Ranchi which which were established in the year 2017-18.
This recognition will pave the way for selection of graduates of these colleges for PG courses of the country's leading agricultural universities, increase their employability and make these colleges eligible for ICAR development grant for strengthening of teaching facilities and students' amenities.
The Board has directed BAU to upload the self study report of these colleges on BAU website with intimation to the board, maintain the strength of faculty, technical and supporting staff and not to increase the sanctioned seats for admission without prior permission of the board.
This is being viewed as a major achievement of new Vice Chancellor Dr SC Dubey who has just completed one year of his term in his office. The VC has congratulated the BAU fraternity for this achievement and expressed gratitude towards the state government and Governor's secretariat officials for their continued cooperation and guidance.
The Peer Review Team of ICAR led by Dr MK Naik, former Vice Chancellor , University of Agricultural and Horticultural Sciences, Shivamoga, Karnataka had visited BAU and it's colleges, inspected hostels, libraries, laboratories etc from November 30 to December 2 last to assess its eligibility for accreditation and interacted with teachers, students, alumni and farmers about the amenities. The Team had submitted its report and recommendations to the ICAR for consideration.
