In a significant step towards eradicating tuberculosis (TB), 12 Panchayats in East Singhbhum district have been declared TB-free. The announcement was made on the occasion of World TB Day, during a felicitation ceremony held at the district headquarters. District Magistrate cum Deputy Commissioner Ananya Mittal honored the heads of these Panchayats by presenting them with mementoes, shawls, and certificates, recognizing their efforts in achieving this milestone.
During the event, the Deputy Commissioner extended his congratulations to Civil Surgeon Dr. Sahir Paul, District Tuberculosis Officer Dr. O.P. Keshari, and the entire Health Department team, commending their dedicated efforts in combating TB. He reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to making the entire East Singhbhum district TB-free by the year 2030. He urged health officials to continue their work with the same level of dedication, ensuring that the fight against TB reaches every corner of the district.
The following 12 Panchayats have successfully eliminated tuberculosis from their communities: Dharambhaal Panchayat (Ghatsila), Kharida, Barakanjia, and Bankishol (Dumariya), North Badiya, West Badiya, and North Ichhra (Musabani), Pokhoriya (Bodam), Kamalpur (Patamda),
Virdoh (Chakulia), Dharambhaal (Golmuri cum Jugsalai) and Mauda (Baharagora).
The Deputy Commissioner, while felicitating the Mukhiyas (village heads) of these Panchayats, praised their collective efforts and collaboration with the district administration. He emphasized that their contribution was crucial in achieving TB-free status and urged them to continue supporting government initiatives.
Ananya Mittal highlighted the importance of Panchayat representatives in ensuring the success of health and welfare schemes. He stated that local governance plays a pivotal role in reaching out to beneficiaries and effectively implementing government services, particularly in rural areas. He expressed confidence that with continued cooperation from local representatives, East Singhbhum can make remarkable progress not only in healthcare but also in education, employment, self-employment, animal husbandry, agriculture, and other service sectors.
The event was attended by Civil Surgeon Dr. Sahir Pal, ACMO Dr. Jogeshwar Prasad, District Tuberculosis Officer Dr. O.P. Keshari, DRCHO Dr. Ranjit Pand, and several other health department officials. Their relentless efforts in community outreach, awareness campaigns, early detection, and treatment have contributed significantly to the success of the TB eradication drive.
“ With this achievement, East Singhbhum sets an inspiring example for other districts, demonstrating that community participation, government intervention, and healthcare initiatives can effectively combat tuberculosis. As the district aims for complete TB eradication by 2030, the success of these 12 Panchayats serves as a stepping stone toward a healthier, disease-free future,” said an official.
