Pakistan violates ceasefire along Line of Control

Thursday, 03 April 2025 | Mohit Kandhari | Jammu

The Indian Army on Wednesday accused Pakistan of violating the ceasefire agreement and resorting to ‘unprovoked’ firing in the Krishna Ghati sector of Poonch after a series of landmine blasts shattered peace in the backdrop of ongoing Eid festivities.

Interestingly, it took the Indian Army 20 long hours to issue a written statement. However, the same was ‘revised’ after another two hours. However, there was no mention of whether the Pakistan Army suffered any damages and injuries during strong retaliatory firing from the Indian side in either of the written statements.

According to the first statement issued by the Defence PRO in Jammu, “Pakistan Army intruded into Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district, violating the ceasefire agreement between the two nations on April 1, 2025. In response, the Indian troops responded with “controlled and calibrated” retaliation.

“On April 1, 2025, a mine blast occurred in Krishna Ghati Sector due to Pakistan Army intrusion across LC. This was followed by unprovoked firing and ceasefire violation by the Pakistan Army. Own troops responded effectively in a controlled and calibrated manner. Situation is under control and being closely monitored,” said the written statement

“Indian Army reiterates the importance of upholding the tenets of DGsMO understanding of 2021 to maintain peace along the Line of Control,” the statement added. Ceasefire violations along the borders of Jammu and Kashmir have been rare since the two countries renewed an agreement on February 25, 2021.

Jammu-based defence PRO Lt Col Suneel Bartwal in a revised statement after about two long hours, claimed, “On 01 Apr 2025, a mine blast occurred in Krishna Ghati Sector while the Pakistan Army was patrolling along the LoC. This was followed by unprovoked firing and ceasefire violation by the Pakistan Army.”

“Own troops responded effectively. The Indian Army continues to dominate the LoC. The situation is under control,” he said. Earlier, on February 21, 2025, the Indian Army had lodged a strong protest with Pakistan over recent incidents of cross-LoC firing at a Brigade Commander level Flag meeting that took place along the line of control near the Chakan-Da-Bagh crossing point in Poonch.

On February 11, 2025, a Captain rank officer of the Indian army was among two soldiers killed in action, and three other jawans sustained grievous injuries when a suspected improvised explosive device (IED) was detonated near the Line of Control (LoC) in the Akhnoor sector of Jammu division.

This was one of the most provocative incidents witnessed along the LoC ever since India and Pakistan agreed to “strict observance” of all peace and ceasefire agreements with effect from midnight on 25 February 2021.

Two army personnel were also injured in separate incidents of small arms firing from across the LoC in Rajouri and Poonch districts, while two more army personnel were injured in separate landmine explosions in Poonch in February.
