Autopsy reveals brutality in Meerut murder

Sunday, 23 March 2025 | Biswajeet Banerjee | Meerut

The post-mortem of former Merchant Navy officer Saurabh Rajput has uncovered the horrific extent of his murder, allegedly orchestrated by his wife, Muskan Rastogi and her lover, Sahil Shukla. The forensic examination revealed calculated brutality, as Rajput was not only stabbed multiple times but also dismembered to conceal the crime. The autopsy conducted in the chilling Meerut murder case confirmed that 29-year-old Saurabh Rajput was stabbed through the heart thrice.

The autopsy disclosed that Rajput’s head was severed, his hands amputated at the wrists and his legs forcibly bent an apparent attempt to fit his remains into a drum. The cause of death was determined to be shock and excessive blood loss due to multiple stab wounds, including three forceful thrusts to the heart.

Reports claimed that it was Muskan who punctured the heart of Saurabh. As a hesitant Muskan sat on the chest of her unconscious husband, her lover handed her a knife and demonstrated its use, instructing her to stab him in the heart three times with a promise of a new life afterwards. Investigators revealed that Rajput was drugged before being fatally attacked on the night of March 3. After killing him, his body was cut into pieces, stuffed into a plastic drum and encased in cement. To mislead authorities and family members, Muskan and Sahil left for a vacation in Himachal Pradesh while sending deceptive messages from Rajput’s phone.

The crime was discovered on March 18, leading to the arrests of the accused.

Superintendent of Police (City) Ayush Vikram Singh confirmed the gruesome details, stating, “Muskan stabbed Saurabh in the heart, severed his neck and chopped off his palms. His body was cut into four pieces and encased in cement.” Forensic experts noted that the cement prevented decomposition, delaying the detection of the crime. The post-mortem team revealed that authorities had to cut open the drum and painstakingly remove the hardened cement to recover the body.

Saurabh and Muskan had married in 2016 despite opposition from his family and had a six-year-old daughter. Investigations suggest that Muskan reconnected with Sahil, an old school acquaintance, through a WhatsApp group in 2019. Rajput’s family alleged that Muskan displayed troubling behaviour early in their marriage, neglected household responsibilities and had a history of drug abuse.

The murder was uncovered when Saurabh’s younger brother, Rahul, visited his residence in Indira Second in Brahmapuri and found Muskan with an unfamiliar man Sahil. Suspicious of her vague answers about Saurabh’s whereabouts and noticing a foul odour from inside the house, Rahul alerted the neighbours and police. Upon investigation, the brutal crime was exposed and the accused confessed about the crime.

Social media outrage over heinous crime

The shocking details of the murder have sparked outrage in social media. Many users expressed anger, stating that Muskan could have opted for divorce rather than resorting to murder. A user named Sona wrote, “Sahil Shukla and Muskan should be hanged. Strict laws should be made for such cases.” Another user, Vaidik, commented, “She should have left him. What was the need to kill him?”

Rehan Khan wrote, “Saurabh used to send money from London and these people enjoyed it. Now they will do romance in jail.” Priya Roy added, “This is not love jihad; this is cement jihad.” Calls for severe punishment, including encounters, have also surfaced, with Ajit Yadav commenting, “Sahil Shukla should be encountered.”

As the case unfolds, police continue to investigate the full extent of Muskan and Sahil’s sinister plan, while the community reels from the sheer brutality of the crime.
