A mentally disturbed man was taken into custody in Shahjahanpur after allegedly tearing pages from a religious book and scattering them on the road. The incident, which occurred on Thursday night in Jalalabad, led to a brief moment of tension, but police swiftly intervened to prevent any escalation.
According to Superintendent of Police (SP) Rajesh Dwivedi, torn pages from a holy book were discovered on Tehsil Road in Jalalabad. Upon receiving the information, police teams rushed to the spot and managed to contain the situation before it could lead to unrest.
CCTV footage from the area was reviewed, which led to the identification of the accused, Najeem, a local resident of Jalalabad. Police officials confirmed that members of the Muslim community had gathered at the scene, prompting senior officials, including SP Rajesh Dwivedi, to reach the spot and hold discussions with them to maintain peace.
SP Dwivedi stated that local residents had informed the police that Najeem suffered from mental health issues. However, as a precautionary measure, he was taken into custody late at night. “The situation in Jalalabad remains peaceful. We have taken all necessary steps to ensure communal harmony is maintained,” SP Dwivedi reassured.
To prevent misinformation and communal tensions, police have deployed additional personnel in the area. Community leaders have urged the public to remain calm and allow the law to take its course.
Authorities have assured that the incident will be investigated thoroughly, with medical evaluations conducted to confirm the accuseds mental condition.
The police have urged people not to spread rumors and assured that strict action will be taken against those attempting to incite unrest over the incident.
