Gurugram Police arrested an accused for allegedly extorting Rs 80 Lakh from a 15-year-old girl by threatening to arrest her by posing as fake DSP, police said. The alleged fake DSP was identified as Fardeen a resident of Nuh district in Haryana. He was arrested from Patudi area on Thursday.
During police interrogation, it was found that the accused had created a DSP ID on TRUE CALLER. After this, he got the money transferred from the victim by threatening her of arrest by posing as a fake DSP. At least six other suspects have already been arrested in the matter, police said on Friday. All the suspects were arrested for extorting Rs 80 Lakh from a 15-year-old girl by threatening to leak her objectionable photos on social media, which turned out to be morphed, police had said.
Inspector Rambir Singh, station house officer (SHO) of the Sector 10A police station, said, “The accused accomplice had provided multiple account numbers to the girl via social media platform for transferring money from her grandmother’s bank account.They had spent most of the amount on parties,” he said. Police had said the elderly woman had recently sold a property and received Rs 80 Lakh in her account. The girl shared details about the money with her school friends, one of whom may have leaked her information to the accused, they added. The victim, a Class IX student living in Sector 10, managed her grandmother’s internet banking.
The matter came to the fore on December 21, when the grandmother discovered her account had been drained of funds and approached the police.
“It was only after being confronted by her parents and grandmother that the girl disclosed the blackmailing,” said SHO Singh.
The accused was taken on police remand for interrogation to trace the money trail and recover the amount.
However, the police have recovered Rs 40 lakh including Rs 1 lakh from the fake DSP.
Efforts are on to apprehend the remaining suspects and identify the school acquaintance who leaked the girl’s information to the extortionists, police said.
