Delhi BJP raises concerns over voter list irregularities

Wednesday, 15 January 2025 | Staff Reporter | New Delhi

Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva on Tuesday raised concerns over alleged irregularities in the voter list ahead of the February 5 Assembly elections.

Accompanied by BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj and senior leader Om Pathak, Sachdeva met Election Commission (EC) officials to highlight their grievances. He claimed that over five lakh new voter applications have been filed recently, many of which raised suspicions.“We found that a significant number of applicants are 80 years or older. How can someone of this age not have a voter ID card until now? Who are these people?” Sachdeva questioned.

He also accused Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) supremo Arvind Kejriwal of attempting to delete the names of 44 voters associated with a Valmiki temple on Mandir Marg, calling the move “anti-Dalit.”

“Kejriwal has filed an application to remove the names of 44 voters from a Valmiki temple. These people have been living there for 22 years. He is anti-Dalit,” Sachdeva alleged.

Further, he accused AAP of targeting government employees residing in MPs’ quarters by filing applications to have their votes removed.

“We have demanded an inquiry into these issues and action against those threatening the Purvanchali and Valmiki communities,” Sachdeva added. These allegations follow similar claims made by the AAP, which has accused the BJP of orchestrating a “voter scam” to influence the election results. The Kejriwal-led party has alleged that the BJP is resorting to unfair practices to regain control of the capital after more

than 25 years. With voting scheduled for February 5 and results set for February 8, the political climate in Delhi remains tense as both parties continue to level accusations against each other.
