Delhi's power demand may clock 9,000 MW

Delhi is set to achieve another historic power milestone. According to SLDC, after clocking a record power demand of 8,656 MW in 2024, Delhi’s peak power demand during the summers of 2025 may clock the  9,000 MW for the first time.

Last year, Delhi’s peak power demand Had crossed 8000 MW for the first very first time.

BSES Rajdhani Power Limited (BRPL) and BSES Yamuna Power Limited (BYPL) are committed to ensure reliable and quality power supply to over 50 lakh consumers and 2 crore residents across South, West, East, and Central Delhi. Smart power procurement strategies, including long-term Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), banking arrangements with other states, along with a robust distribution network, are ensuring an uninterrupted power supply. Peak power demand in BRPL’ area of South and West Delhi, which had clocked  3809  MW during the summers of 2024, is expected to reach around 4050 MW during the summers of 2025.

On the other hand, in BYPL’ area of East and Central Delhi, the peak power demand, which had reached 1882 MW. during the summers of 2024, is expected to touch around 1900 MW this year.  To maintain a sustainable and eco-friendly power supply, up to 2000 MW of renewable energy is significantly contributing to meeting BSES’ winter power demand.According to SLDC data, the city's peak power demand has remained stable, ranging between 4070-4360 MW since March 25. BSES discoms are ensuring a seamless, reliable and quality power supply, successfully meeting Delhi’s winter electricity demand.Certain allegations circulating on social media about power supply issues are false and misleading. BSES DISCOMs have ensured reliable and quality power supply across all areas under their jurisdiction.Power supply across our network is normal and continues to be reliable. Minor, localised disruptions — an inherent aspect of power distribution — may occasionally occur, but these are swiftly addressed. At times, power outage also takes placed on account of maintenance, which is essential to the smooth functioning of the network. As part of commitment to ensure a reliable power supply, BSES discoms have dedicated war rooms for real-time monitoring of the power supply situation. Led by senior officials, these war rooms enable swift decision-making and response. Additionally, BSES field teams remain on high alert, ready to address any exigencies promptly.
