YUDHRA: A Hit or Miss Action

Action scenes come to the rescue for an unhooked plot for Yudhra, says ABHI SINGHAL

Yudhra is an action thriller film directed by Ravi Udyawar. Its script is done by Shridhar Raghavan and dialogues are written by Farhan Akhtar and Akshat Ghildial.  The film stars Siddhant Chaturvedi in the title role, alongside Malavika Mohanan, Raghav Juyal, Gajraj Rao, Ram Kapoor, Raj Arjun and Shilpa Shukla.

Yudhra, who is struggling with anger issues, is assigned an undercover mission to bring down a powerful drug syndicate headed by Firoz and his son Shafiq. Yudhra accepts the responsibility as he wants to exact revenge against Firoz for his parents's death.

The film commences with a loose narrative from the start and  revolves around the character’s anger issues. The movie opens with an over aggressive orphan kid played by Siddhant. It is the point from where action packed role of Chaturvedi as Yudhra starts.

To counterbalance Yudhra's irascible demeanour and immense power, the film features Gajraj Rao as his foster father who plays his deceased father’s friend. Gajraj is a senior and experienced actor but unfortunately his role does not add weight to the movie. Siddhant who made his electrifying debut in Gully Boy, tries to experiment with the action cinema.

The scenes in the film are set with a narrative of high octane action and Siddhant Chaturvedi is seen pushing his limits with the role. The bike chasing scene raises expectations but only to be dashed shortly after. The romantic subplot in the film between Yudhra and Nikhat (Malavika Mohanan) remains underdeveloped and fails to resonate with the audience. Their chemistry does not work and disappoint to say the least.

Yudhra lacks a distinctive quality that sets it apart from other action films. The storyline could have been more engaging to keep the audience interested. There are some violent scenes that  captivate the audience.

Raghav Juyal, playing the antagonist in the film. His entry could be more powerful. His presence does help you to sit through the film.

Siddhant  could have shone but the sloppy storyline snatches away that from him. But Raghav Juyal does proves himself despite short screen time he gets and that too spaced by an hour.

Gajraj Rao and Ram Kapoor have played their roles in a decent manner and have adjusted well to their roles. Raj Arjun as Firoz plays Yudhra’s father’s killer’s rival and fits in well.

The music of the film is also average, and was not expected from someone like Shankar Ehsaan Loy. He has composed two songs in the film.

The film can be considered a one time watch but it lacks clarity to Siddhant Chaturvedi's

character and is a bit blunt and intimidating to understand. The film’s duration of two hours and thirty minutes is rather long and could have been much less. That would have made it crisp and tight. As an action genre lover you would want to like Yudhra. Despite its fast-paced action sequences it fails to captivate audiences. While action loves may watch it for its action but they could well be disappointed with its storyline and mediocre perfromances.
