On the occasion of World Kidney Day, the Pediatrics Department of AIIMS Bhopal hosted a significant program on Thursday, emphasizing the importance of kidney health awareness. The event was graced by Professor (Dr.) Ajai Singh, Executive Director of AIIMS Bhopal, who highlighted the critical need for widespread awareness regarding kidney health and timely treatment.
In his address, Professor Singh underscored the necessity of dispelling misconceptions surrounding kidney transplants and urged parents to seek timely treatment for their children. Emphasizing the role of awareness in preventing the need for transplants, he stressed the importance of early intervention in curing diseases.
Furthermore, Professor Singh urged the exploration of the role of AYUSH in chronic renal diseases, indicating a holistic approach towards kidney care. Earlier, Professor (Dr.) Shikha Malik, Head of the Department of Pediatrics, extended a warm welcome.
Throughout the week leading up to the event, various activities were organized, including national and undergraduate level quiz competitions, outreach programs in schools and colleges, and engaging competitions like fancy dress and drawing for children. Over 150 participants actively took part in these events.
In a notable achievement, the Pediatric Nephrology branch of AIIMS Bhopal, in collaboration with McGill University of Canada, has elevated its status from Level C to Level A under the Sister Renal Program of the International Society of Nephrology. Additionally, the branch has been recognized as a Fellowship Training Centre by the International Pediatric Nephrology Association.
The event concluded with Professor (Dr) Ajai Singh felicitating the winning participants, marking a successful celebration of World Kidney Day and a significant step forward in promoting kidney health awareness at AIIMS Bhopal. On this occasion, a booklet named "Vrikkankit" was also released which will have complete detail about the treatment given to the kidney patient.
