Will remain in Congress till last breath, says Capt Ajay Yadav after withdrawing resignation

Monday, 21 October 2024 | PNS | Chandigarh

Days after having rattled the Congress with his resignation, Ahirwal leader and former Haryana Congress minister Captain Ajay Singh Yadav took a U-turn and withdrew his resignation. After complaining of "shabby treatment" by the "high command" and quitting the Congress party, Yadav took a U-turn and said that he is a "Congressman by birth" and will remain so "till his last breath". Yadav said he was "prevailed upon" by his son and former MLA Chiranjeev Rao to "forget the past" and return to the party again.

"I am a congressman by birth and will remain a congressman till my last breath. I am especially indebted to my leader and mentor senior party leader Sonia Gandhi ji and can never think of hurting her feelings," he added.

Former MLA Chiranjeev Rao, who is the son of the former minister, faced defeat in Rewari during the recent Haryana Assembly elections. Yadav previously said that the grand old party needs to reflect on its poor performance in southern Haryana, particularly in areas like Gurugram, Rewari, Mahendragarh, and Faridabad, where it secured only one seat compared to the BJP's 10 seats.

Yadav joined the Congress in 1988 and is known for his knack for speaking his mind, especially on issues like the reported prominence of Hooda and the neglect of other leaders in Haryana Congress.

In a flurry of posts on X, the former Haryana minister and national president of OBC Morcha of Congress expressed commitment to the Congress party that he had served for 38 years. "I worked with my leader late Rajiv Gandhi ji and Sonia Gandhi and cannot forget their affection towards me as our family have a long association of more than 70 years since 1952 my late father Rao Abhey Singh with the Nehru-Gandhi family," he said.

On Thursday, the former Haryana minister had resigned from the post as well as the primary membership of the party, citing "shabby" treatment after Sonia Gandhi left the post of Congress president. "This decision was hard. My family has had 70 years of association with Congress as my father late Rao Abhey Singh became MLA in 1952 and I continued with the family tradition. Now, I am now disillusioned with the party high command," he had said on Thursday announcing his resignation.

He also expressed disappointment that his contributions to the Other Backward Classes department had not been acknowledged by the high command and that some harsh remarks pushed him into taking the decision to resign. "I was upset that my hard work done for the OBC department was not being appreciated by high command and some harsh words made me to take this drastic step but with a cool mind I decided to strengthen the Congress party, especially my mentor and leader Sonia Gandhi," he said in a following post on X.
