Using improper footwear causes injuries: Dr Jain

Friday, 15 November 2024 | Staff Reporter | BHOPAL

Four out of five people who engage in daily physical activity or running suffer from injuries due to improper footwear, said Dr Abhishek Jain, consultant radiologist at the University of Liverpool, on Thursday.

Dr Jain was addressing a workshop on Musculoskeletal Issues in Middle-aged Individuals at the Bhopal Memorial Hospital and Research Centre (BMHRC) in the state capital.

Dr Manisha Srivastava, the Director In-charge of BMHRC, explained that such workshops are organised monthly to raise awareness about health-related topics among the female staff.

This workshop was part of a series of such initiatives. Dr Saurabh Dixit said that mobile phone use among children should be discouraged, as holding the neck in one position for prolonged periods can lead to musculoskeletal issues.

He said that the habit can result in cervical pain in children. These days, many parents bring their children to the OPD with complaints of neck pain. Dr Dixit further explained that cervical issues are easily diagnosed. In most cases, there is no need for a CT scan or MRI; a simple X-ray is enough to determine the presence of cervical problems.

Dr Lalit Kumar, Head of the Respiratory Department at BMHRC, clarified that it is a common misconception that musculoskeletal problems only affect the elderly. Due to modern lifestyles, even younger individuals are increasingly facing these issues.
