UP govt to build hostel for nurses at BRD Medical College

In a significant boost to healthcare infrastructure, the Uttar Pradesh government will construct a 100-seater hostel for married nurses at the newly-built Super Specialty Hospital in Baba Raghav Das (BRD) Medical College, Gorakhpur.

The project, to cost over Rs 30.31 crore, aims to provide essential housing facilities for the nursing staff.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath laid the foundation stone for the hostel at the BRD Medical College recently. In a swift follow-up, the government released an initial installment of Rs 2.47 crore on Tuesday (August 13) to commence the construction.

This initiative is part of CM Yogi’s broader strategy to enhance healthcare services and infrastructure across Uttar Pradesh. His efforts include the successful elimination of encephalitis in Gorakhpur and the recognition of BRD Medical College.

Under his leadership, the concept of ‘Ayushman Uttar Pradesh’ has been advanced through the ‘One District, One Medical College’ programme, further solidifying his commitment to improving medical facilities in the state, a government spokesman said.

Notably, on August 3, the chief minister had gifted many schemes to the BRD Medical College in Gorakhpur. He had inaugurated the newly-installed CT scan machine, OPD of genetic medicine, OPD of paediatrics, orthopedics, Milk Bank, sample collection centre in microbiology department, fully automatic tissue processor in pathology department, fully automatic urine analyser, 5-part Simex CBC analyser, and Alignity machine of tumour maker hormone deduction of new advanced technology and increase in the range of IHC panel at a cost of Rs 7.17 crore.

In addition to these facilities, CM Yogi had also inaugurated a new burn unit at a cost of over Rs 6.12 crore, expansion/construction for the Pharmacy College at the cost of over Rs 8.5 crore, and the establishment of a National Emergency Life Support Lab for over Rs 2.67 crore. A new lithotripsy machine costing Rs 11.25 lakh and a boundary wall for the stadium at the cost of Rs 97.90 lakh were also part of the announced improvements.
