The Uttarakhand Kranti Dal (UKD) on Wednesday declared journalist and social activist Ashutosh Negi (50) as its candidate from Garhwal Lok Sabha constituency. The party also announced its candidates for the other three constituencies of the State.
The party president Puran Singh Kathaith said that Mohan Singh Aswal (52), a farmer by profession, will contest the election from the Haridwar constituency. He announced Shiv Singh (59), an ex- service man as the party’s candidate from Nainital- Udham Singh Nagar constituency. A social activist Arjun Kumar Dev (33) will contest from Almora constituency.
Talking about his decision to join UKD to contest Lok Sabha elections, Negi said that the government led by BJP and Congress are not working towards the welfare of Uttarakhand’s people, especially young girls and women. He claimed that he was arrested because he was fighting for justice in the Ankita Bhandari murder case and the government wanted to suppress his voice. The people should look beyond BJP and Congress and cast votes for those who can actually work for their welfare. It is pertinent to mention here that the police had arrested Negi on March 5. Later he was released on bail.
