Two workers died while another was injured after inhaling poisonous gas inside a sewer tank at a construction site in southwest Delhi's Sarojini Nagar.
According to the police on Wednesday, the incident took place on Tuesday afternoon when the workers went inside the tank for cleaning.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Southwest Surendra Choudhary said, “On Tuesday, a PCR call was received at Sarojini Nagar police station that a building had collapsed at Pillanji Village, near Metro Gate No.1 and three to four persons were trapped.”
Reacting to the call, a police team rushed to the place of occurrence at NBCC, Construction site at Pillanji Village near Metro Gate No. 02. “It is found that two workers were removing garbage from the gutter, which was not in use presently and became unconscious, to rescue them one another labour also went into the sewerage,” a senior police official said.
The two deceased were identified as 41 years old Ramasre, resident of Barda Dhamna village of Uttar Pradesh’s Hamirpur, and 29 year old Babundra Kumar Singh, resident of Bihar’s Gopal Ganj were declared dead after being shifted to the hospital. The third labourer has been identified as 28 year old Shrinath Soren, resident of Dikul village of West Bengal’s District Dakshin Dinajpur, is undergoing treatment.
“Two of the labour were shifted to Diyos hospital in Safdarjung Enclave by the ambulance VCL construction company while the third labour namely Ramasre was sent through ERV of the Police station to AIIMS, Trauma Centre. Later, information was received that Ramasre who was admitted in an unconscious condition was declared dead by doctors. Lateron Babundra Kumar Singh was also declared dead by the doctors,” the DCP stated, adding that the third person Shrinath is under treatment. A case under sections 106(1) (Causing death by negligence), 125 (Act endangering life or personal safety of others) and125(a) (Act endangering life or personal safety of others) of BNS was registered at Sarojini Nagar police station has been registered. Choudhary added that a thorough investigation is being conducted.
On Wednesday, the post mortem of deceased Ramasre was conducted at Mortuary AIIMS Truma Centre and the body was handed over to his relatives by the authorities.
