The court of Additional District Judge-II in Chaibasa sentenced two lady Naxals, identified as Jubna Birua and Saraswati Bhumij, to five years of rigorous imprisonment on Tuesday. Both were found guilty in a 2018 murder case registered at the Manjhari police station in West Singhbhum.
According to the prosecution, Jubna Birua, the wife of Damkan Birua, and Saraswati Bhumij, the wife of Durga Bhumij, attacked a man named Sukhlal Birua with sticks due to an old enmity. The attack left Sukhlal, a resident of Nagarkatta village in the Manjhari area, with severe injuries. He was admitted to a government hospital for treatment but later succumbed to his injuries.
Following Sukhlal's death, the police registered a case against unknown assailants. After conducting an investigation, they discovered that Jubna Birua and Saraswati Bhumij were responsible for the attack. Both women, who were also residents of Nagarkatta, were subsequently arrested and charged with the relevant sections.
