Turncoat legislators’ matter stuck with State Assembly

Sunday, 09 June 2024 | PNS | Ranchi

The matter of turncoat legislators is stuck in the State Assembly as a number of them have either not informed the Assembly speaker about changing parties and a couple of them had resigned in informal ways.

BJP's Mandu MLA Jayprakash Bhai Patel has decided not resign from the membership of House. Patel, who contested from Hazaribagh on a Congress ticket, will remain in the Assembly with the BJP folder. Leader of Opposition Amar Kumar Bauri had complained against Patel of defection to Speaker Ravindra Nath Mahato. The Speaker's Judicial Tribunal had taken cognizance of this matter. Both the parties were asked to respond.

Patel and the Leader of Opposition were asked to send their respective versions to the Speaker by June 6. In this matter, JP Patel, who is surrounded by allegations of defection, is procrastinating, his reply has not come after the Speaker sent a notice. Once again he has asked for six weeks' time.

Now it depends on Speaker Mr. Mahato how much time he will give to Patel.

Sita Soren resigned from JMM on March 19 and joined BJP. On the same day, she forwarded her resignation from her daughter's email ID. Her resignation has not been accepted yet as it was not sent to the Speaker through proper medium. In this regard, the speaker has informed Sita Soren that she should send her resignation either in person or through her special messenger.

On March 19, while resigning from the party and the post of MLA, Sita Soren wrote an emotional letter to JMM president and her father-in-law Shibu Soren, accusing him of ignoring her. She wrote that she holds the post of central general secretary in the party but she does not get any importance within the party, the party which her husband Durga Soren built with his hard work has gone to such people whose views do not match the ideology of the party. Sita Soren has been an MLA from Jama thrice, after joining BJP, the party fielded her from Dumka, but in the Lok Sabha elections, she had to face defeat at the hands of JMM candidate Nalin Soren.

Meanwhile, JMM MLAs Lobin Hendram and Chamra Linda rebelled and contested the Lok Sabha elections. Lobin has been expelled by JMM. Chamra Linda has been suspended. Lobin Hendram and Chamra Linda will sit in the JMM folder in the Assembly. However, the Assembly has not received any complaint of defection against these two MLAs.
