A speeding truck mowed down a couple sleeping on the road in Lambakheda area under Eintkhedi police station area late in the night on Tuesday, deceased used to work as a labourer and were sleeping outside due to hot weather conditions.

The accident took place in an under construction colony where the truck carried building material was moving. The incident took place when the  truck   was reversing. After getting the information, the police reached the spot. The police have seized the  truck    while the driver is being searched.

According to the police, Bachchu Lal (50) was a resident of Beraval village of Shamshabad in Vidisha district. His wife Ghanshyam Bai also worked as a labourer. Both of them used to work as watchmen in Sunrise Homes, an under-construction colony near Lambakheda, to work as labourers. The builder has built a small house here, in which the labourers live. Its work is also going on, due to which there is no light in the area.

Due to the hot weather conditions both slept outside on Tuesday night.

At around 11 pm, a dumper came to the colony to dump building material. It had already dumped the material three times before. It reached the fourth trip at around 11 pm.

After dumping the gravel, since there was no way to go ahead, the driver started reversing the dumper. During this, Bachchu Lal and his wife Ghanshyam Bai, who were sleeping on the road under construction, were hit.

Both their bodies were crushed as the four wheels of the dumper ran over them. Police said that the police seized the dumper, while the driver fled.
