The Delhi Police’s Special Cell arrested a 22-year-old sharpshooter of Tillu Tajpuriya - Davender Bambiha gang in a murder case after a brief exchange of fire near Rohini.
According to the police on Thursday, Nihal, who is suspected to be a member of the Tillu gang, sustained bullet injuries in the exchange of fire. A firearm and a two wheeler on which the suspect was travelling were recovered from the spot.
A senior police officer said, “On the night of Wednesday, police recieved a specific input regarding one of the shooters of Tillu Tajpuriya - Davender Bambiha Gang who is involved in Mundka Murder case and acting upon the information, team laid a trap near UER -II road adjacent to Kheda Canal, Shahbad Dairy area.”
The police spotted the suspect at around 9 pm riding a scooty and signaled him to stop. “However, upon seeing the police, the suspect attempted to flee, but the scooty slipped, bringing him to a halt.
They opened fire on the police team. In retaliation and self-defense, the police team fired upon him and in the process the suspect was injured,” it said.
Nihal was allegedly involved in the murder of one Amit Lakra, who had recently got bail in a case of robbery. Lakra was allegedly shot six times at a crowded market in Mundka on November 9.
According to another official, initial investigations suggested that Lakra was a member of the Gogi gang and was targeted by members of its rival, Tillu gang.
