Mayor Malti Rai will inaugurate the operation of Shikaras being started in Upper Lake on the lines of Dal Lake of Srinagar on Friday. MLA Bhagwandas Sabnani, member in-charge of water works and sewage in the Mayor Council Ravindra Yati will also be present.
Last year, the National Green Tribunal had banned the operation of cruise and motor boats in any water bodies of the state including Bhoj Wetland (Upper Lake), Narmada. NGT had termed it an illegal activity and ordered to stop the operation of cruise in Bada Talab. The order said that the emissions from diesel and diesel engines are a danger to aquatic life including humans, because the sulfur and nitrogen oxide emitted from it makes the water acidic. It is carcinogenic for both humans and aquatic life. This order issued for Bhoj Wetland was applicable to all types of wetlands of the state including Narmada river.
