Indian Railways is moving ahead at a rapid pace in the direction of modernisation towards realising Prime Minister's vision of a new India. Under the Amrit Bharat Station scheme launched by the Govt of India, more than 1300 railway stations across the country are being redeveloped with state-of-the-art facilities. Altogether 70 stations of South Eastern Railway across its four divisions in the states of West Bengal, Jharkhand and Odisha have been earmarked for redevelopment under this scheme. Hatia is one of the major stations in Ranchi Division of South Eastern Railway.
The core ideology behind the redevelopment and design of the station and station premises is to revamp the circulation and develop better station with modern facilities and providing travellers a comfortable and seamless experience.
Stations have been envisaged to attract urban development around them. The stations, when developed to world class standards would have a massive commercial impact on the city’s economy as well as their combined financial output would contribute to the national economy.
It involves preparation of Master Plans and their implementation to improve the amenities at the stations like improvement of station access, circulating areas, waiting halls, toilets, lift/escalators as necessary, cleanliness, free Wi-Fi, kiosks for local products through schemes like ‘One Station One Product’, better passenger information systems, Executive lounges, nominated spaces for business meeting, landscaping, etc keeping in view the necessity at each station.
The scheme also envisages improvement of building, integrating the station with both side of the city, multi-modal integration, amenities for Divyangjans, sustainable and environment friendly solutions, provision of ballastless tracks, ‘Roof Plazas’ as per necessity, phasing and feasibility and creation of city centers at the station in the long term.
Redevelopment of the station complex will allow connectivity between present and future multimodal facilities to provide a seamless experience to the passengers. Hatia Railway Station has huge scope of growth in the near future and hence, it is desirable to upgrade the station. The Project will be completed with a total cost of approx. Rs. 355 crore.
The project will lead to many benefits including, High comfort, modern facilities, and passenger amenities at moderate cost; Comfortable and adequate waiting space for all types of reserved / unreserved categories; Segregated flow of arrival and departure passengers; Adequate escalators and stairs for vertical circulation; Uniform Signage, maps, and train information systems for guidance of passengers and Integration with public transport- best resolved intermodal connectivity.
